New Media Job Interview Tips

Below we've outlined the essential do's and don'ts to help you succeed in your interview for the new media job BD Recruitment have just found you.

  • Wear smart business dress - smart outfit, conservative on jewellery/ make-up/ perfume and aftershave.
  • Ensure you are familiar with the location of the company - perhaps take the journey beforehand.
  • Prepare three or four questions for the interview i.e.
    - what training will be given?
    - what type of team will I be working in?
    - how are staff appraised?
  • Remember - the first 90 seconds are when the biggest impact is made.

Do's

  • Do relax and smile.
  • Do make frequent eye contact.
  • Do shake hands firmly.
  • Do be positive throughout the interview.
  • Do look interested in what the interviewer has to say.
  • Do concentrate on what's being discussed, so you don't miss anything.
  • Do listen to questions being asked and only answer the questions asked.
  • Do keep your composure.
  • Do relate experience with what they are looking for, try to think of relevant recent examples to back up your answers.
  • Do be prepared to discuss strengths and weaknesses - turn weaknesses into strengths.
  • Do leave the interview on a positive note, emphasising your interest in the company and role.

Don'ts

  • Do not fidget or fold arms in a defensive manner.
  • Do not interrupt the client when speaking.
  • Do not waffle or make assumptions.
  • Do not be afraid to sell yourself - this is your one opportunity.

  • Who are your customers?
  • What training will you provide?
  • Are there any promotional opportunities within this role? If so, when?
  • What are the company's expansion and/ or business plans for the future?
  • Will travel be required within the role?
  • Do they have a specific project in mind for you initially?
  • When are they looking to make an appointment?
  • What are the salary/ package/ bonus details?
    (though don't ask this too early in the interview)
  • When are you likely to hear from them?
